Phillips Lamps: How To Decorate With Light

I knew that I had to have ambient light, focal light and decorative light for my bathroom to be decorated with light. Ambient light is the light that is all around the room. The ambient light that I used for my bathroom was a Phillips lamp ceiling fixture. This was relatively inexpensive and mounted easily on the ceiling. When turned on, with the flick of the light switch, the entire room lit up. As a bathroom is the one place you don’t want to rummage around in the dark, ambient light is essential in a bathroom.

The focal light is the light that draws your attention to a particular object in the room. I used recessed lighting in the shower, which made the room glow when used alone, and a Phillips lamp in the night stand in the bathroom. This tiny touch gave the room a warm feeling and drew attention to the ultra modern shower as well as the antique dresser.

Decorative lighting was used next to the two mirrors over the bath vanity. Decorative lighting gives the room a nice touch and is “showy,” unlike recessed lighting, which is hidden. I chose two Philips wall sconces for each side of the two mirrors. When decorating with light, mirrors can be an added bonus and double the lighting effect.

For my living area, I also decorated using Philips lamps. The ceiling fan had a nice light kit attached to it and did double duty in the living area by circulating air as well as lighting the room. I had canned lights placed above the fireplace as my focal light. Both the canned lights and the ceiling fixture lamp were able to be turned on with the light switch on the wall. For my decorative light, I chose a Phillips floor lamp with a homemade shade.

I knew I was getting quality from the Phillips company as they are one of the industry leaders in lighting, but I was surprised at the choice in decorative fixtures. Phillips apparently works with some of the leading designers in making quality home lighting décor.

In my bedroom, I used Phillips wall sconces in an unusual way on the sides of my mirrored dresser. These added both ambience and décor to the room when topped with antique min-shades. I also added a ceiling fan to both circulate air and add more ambience. Both of these fixtures were attached to the light switches and were convenient to turn on and off.

Philips makes a vast array of bulbs for lamps and light fixtures and even has a large commercial division. Whatever your lighting needs, Phillips lamps, light bulbs and light fixtures can add beauty and ambience to your home.
