Modern Lamps

Decorating With Pottery Lamps

One of my favorite types of pottery is Haeger pottery. In addition to fine pottery, Haeger also makes a large assortment of pottery lamps. These range from more traditional styles to sleek, modern art pottery designs.

Pottery lamps come in many different forms. The pottery makes the base and can be any shape. Some vintage pottery lamps are coveted by collectors as pottery lamps have been around for a very long time. Pottery is made from clay, either handcrafted or molded, and baked in a kiln oven to get hard. Paints and glazes are then added to give design to the piece and it is baked again. The finished result is a lovely piece of pottery. Lamps made from pottery tend to be prized as useful and artistic.

Charlie West Pottery makes a vast array of pottery lamps. These pottery lamps are available in fine stores everywhere and also online. Charlie West pottery lamps are handcrafted with superb craftsmanship by the designer himself. Unlike some molded pottery lamps, Charlie West pottery lamps each offer a unique design. Best of all, the pottery is stamped, or marked, on the bottom. Pottery with marks tends to be valued as collector’s pieces as time wears on.

If your home is decorated in Southwestern flavor, you may like a Tarahumara pottery lamp. These lamps, handcrafted in Mexico, are all unique and come with a rawhide lampshade.

Art pottery is featured in the designs from Ephraim Pottery, also sold in fine stores. These pottery lamps feature dark, sleek pottery designs with bamboo leaf lamp shades. They sit on mahogany lamp bases and add an elegant touch to any home decorated in Mission style. Morris lamps, through Ephraim Pottery, also makes one of a kind lamp shades to go with their exquisite pottery lamps.

Vintage pottery TV lamps are collected by people all over the world. These unique lamps that feature pottery from the 1950s are prized by collectors. Many of them feature animal pottery pieces that have been made into a lamp.

While some pottery lamps include a shade, some pottery lamps virtually are the shade and lamp all in one piece. These pottery lamps are great decorating pieces because they add a nice glow to the room. The pottery “shade” is inverted on the lamp base and the light is located in the bottom middle of the pottery lamp. There are also vintage pottery lamps that are designed in this mode.

For a truly unique pottery lamp, make your own! Many towns have ceramics or pottery shops where you can handcraft your own piece, have it fired, or baked in the kiln, and paint it to your own liking. Simply add a lamp kit, available at most lighting stores and craft shops, and you have a one of a kind, original pottery lamp.

Pottery lamps have been around for a long time. Today these lamps offer durability, function and artistic décor for virtually all tastes. Pottery lamps are not only timeless, they may, someday, become a prized collector’s item.
